Electronic Data Laboratory Management: which is the best way to optimize the process?

Abstract

The increasing volume of data generated in laboratories has led to a shift from traditional paper-based documentation to electronic data management systems. While electronic data management systems offer greater efficiency compared to traditional methods, they do come with their limitations. Maintaining data integrity, particularly in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), is crucial for pharmaceutical companies. The data must be attributable, legible, contemporaneous, original, accurate, consistent, and reliable throughout its lifecycle, following the ALCOA+ principles. Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) not only assist in streamlining data recording, execution, and storage processes, but they also facilitate consistent data capture, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and expedited information access during audits. This article aims to explore the benefits and considerations of implementing an Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) to enhance laboratory data management.
